What is the best laptop for network field work?
One with a true serial console port, Gigabit Ethernet and a battery that lasts the day. The fully rugged CF-31 has it all built in. The CF-54 and Toughbook 55 are lighter semi-rugged options with serial as an option, and the Dell Latitude Rugged adds two hot-swappable batteries.
Which laptops have a serial console port?
The CF-31, CF-53, CF-19 and Dell Latitude 5420 / 5430 Rugged include a true RS-232 serial port, and the CF-54 and Toughbook 55 offer one as an option.
Do I still need a USB-to-serial adapter?
Not with a true serial port. A built-in RS-232 port avoids adapter driver issues and is one less thing to lose in the truck.
Can I get 4G LTE?
Yes. 4G LTE with GPS is an option on many models, including the CF-31, CF-53, CF-54, Toughbook 55 and Toughbook 40.
