What is the best laptop for working outdoors?
One with a sunlight-viewable screen, IP65 or better sealing and a battery that lasts the day. The CF-33 is the brightest 2-in-1 with twin hot-swappable batteries, the CF-19 is a proven convertible, and the FZ-G1 is the lightest rugged tablet. Tell us about your work and we'll recommend one.
What does "nits" mean, and how bright is bright enough?
Nits measure screen brightness. A typical laptop is around 250 to 300 nits and is hard to read in direct sun. Outdoors, look for 800 nits or more: the FZ-G1 has 800, and the CF-31, CF-33 and Toughbook 40 reach up to 1,200.
Are Toughbooks waterproof?
Rugged Toughbooks are water-resistant, not submersible. IP65 means dust-tight and protected against water jets from any direction, and IP66 against powerful water jets, so rain and spray are fine, but they're not made to go underwater.
Do they have GPS?
Many models offer dedicated GPS or 4G LTE with GPS, including the CF-31, CF-33, Toughbook 55 and Toughbook 40.
Will it work in heat and cold?
Toughbooks are tested to MIL-STD-810 for temperature extremes. Exact operating ranges vary by model and are listed on each model's spec sheet.
